Troubleshooting Your 3D Prints
Even experienced 3D printing operators encounter issues from time to time. Here's how to diagnose and fix the 10 most common problems.
1. Stringing
Those thin wisps of filament between parts? Increase retraction distance and speed. For most printers, 5-7mm retraction at 40mm/s eliminates stringing.
2. Warping
When corners lift off the bed, it's usually a temperature issue. Use a heated bed (60°C for PLA, 100°C for ABS) and consider an enclosure for ABS prints.
3. Layer Shifts
Misaligned layers indicate a mechanical issue. Check belt tension, motor current, and ensure nothing is obstructing the print head's movement.
4. Under-Extrusion
Gaps and missing layers? Clean your nozzle, check filament diameter consistency, and calibrate your extruder steps/mm.
5. Over-Extrusion
Blobby surfaces and rough textures suggest over-extrusion. Reduce flow rate by 5% and recalibrate if needed.
6-10. More Solutions
Other common issues include bed adhesion problems, elephant's foot, ghosting/ringing, Z-banding, and clogged nozzles. Each has specific solutions that our printing team can help you with.
